We supply and fit a wide range of solar systems.
Solar panels are the one addition to a motorhome that makes the vehicle usable 'off grid' for prolonged periods and the setup can leave the vehicle without need for EHU indefinately if required. Basically a solar panel collects energy from light, converts it to electrical energy and stores it in your habitation batteries via a controller. The amount of energy depends on the wattage output of the panel, the type of controller and the battery capacity and condition. Most solar systems we install are a minimum of 150 watt and usually fed througha MPPT controller with an optional monitor. The costs depend greatly on the quality of the panel used, we at Camper-Medic use a quality supplier and only fit monocrystalline panels and use predominately MPPT controllers.
The amount of energy is defined by the surface area of the panel, if you have room then consider fitting 2 panels or more. For ease of counting a panel will provide 150 watts in optimal conditions and a 2 panel setup delivering a maximum 300 watt supply is adequate for the vast majority of users. Your battery bank determines how much storage you have. Click HERE to take you to our battery page where we go into detail of your battery requirements. If you wish to avail of a 240 volt AC supply from your solar/battery setup then you will require an inverter, details HERE. The whole area of solar panels, batteries etc is quite a detailled area and we advise anyone who is thinking about fitting the system to sit down with us and we will give you advice without obligation on the appropiate system and if required a quotation for supply and fitting.
